Augustine Art @ Home, Pigs and Books!

First, a pig pen tour!

This one can be complicated and time consuming, but super fun! Trust me, once you get started you really just can't stop creating.

Materials you'll need:
Paper
Scissors
Glue stick (see my note about glues below)
Pencil and coloring tools
Cardboard
Fabric or other covering
Tacky glue or other glue

Here are instructions for creating your own books and covers.

Notes about glue:
I recommend a glue stick for gluing together paper pages, but something a little stronger like tacky glue or another type of liquid glue will be better for gluing the cover and book into the cover.

I'm sorry I don't have a story to read about the three little pigs.  There are many versions online, including my favorite, a fun video from the 1930s made by Disney called Silly Symphony.

Here are some helper templates:
I use Template Two in the book I show in the video.

And lastly here are some examples of books that I've made or I've made with my daughter.

Here is a preschool book featuring favorite pets.

This was a nature journal I made with my then four year old.  This is a simple book with punched holes and yarn ties to hold it together.  I strongly encourage you create a nature journal with your little ones.  It is a great tool for teaching observational drawing and have a little science lesson at the same time.  The secret is that YOU, the adult, need to also do a drawing!

Here is an example of the pop-up in template #2.

Here are some pages from a pop-up book I made about the artist, Frederick Edwin Church.  Note, this book is mixed media.  Sometimes adding a little collage can help those who are less confident in their drawing skills.
